KCA University Western Campus recently had the honor of hosting Hon. Yvonne Apiyo Brändle-Amolo, a distinguished member of the Swiss Parliament representing the Social Democratic Party. Born on the shores of Lake Victoria in Kenya, Hon. Brändle-Amolo has made significant strides in her career, transitioning from a guest relations officer in Kenya to a respected parliamentarian in Switzerland.
During her visit, Hon. Brändle-Amolo engaged with the Campus Director, Dr. Edward Owino; Ass. Dean of Students, Mr. Eric Kaimenyi; faculty member, Dr. Edwin Omol; and the student leadership (Campus Leadership Committee), led by its chairperson, Ms. Tecla Njue. She shared her inspiring journey and discussed the importance of education, cultural exchange, and perseverance. She emphasized the role of educational institutions like KCA University in shaping future leaders and fostering international collaborations.
Hon. Brändle-Amolo’s story is a testament to resilience and determination. After relocating to Switzerland, she overcame language barriers and cultural adjustments, eventually becoming a Swiss citizen. Her active involvement in social issues led her to produce the award-winning film Not Swiss Made, highlighting her fight against racism in Switzerland. This activism paved the way for her entry into Swiss politics, where she now serves as one of the 245 members of the Swiss Parliament.
The courtesy call to KCA University Western Campus underscores the university’s commitment to providing its students and faculty with opportunities to interact with global leaders, enriching their academic experience and broadening their perspectives. The university looks forward to potential collaborations with Hon. Brändle-Amolo in areas of mutual interest, particularly in promoting talent, cultural understanding, and educational excellence.
